Short entry this week. I'm gearing up to produce more video content to share the best new streaming movies every week in a fun...and really weird way. Till then, here are the best new streaming movies to watch together this week!
Nomadland (2020)
Available Friday, February 19 on Hulu
With four Golden Globe nominations, including Chloé Zhao's nomination for best director (first in Golden Globe history for an Asian Woman), Nomadland is not to be missed. The film stars Frances McDormand playing a woman who journeys as a modern-day nomad after a collapsing economy decimates her rural Nevada company town. Eric Kohn of IndieWire writes in his review of the film, "Nomadland relishes the nomads’ expansive universe, emphasizing the contrast between gaining freedom from society while feeling estranged at the same time." So Nomadland might be good viewing for folks feeling cooped up at home the past year.
I Care Alot (2021)
Available Friday, February 19 on Netflix
Rosamund Pike stars in I Care A Lot as a woman who makes a living stealing from the elderly by convincing the courts to appoint her as their legal guardian. This goes well until she picks on the wrong old lady. I Care A Lot looks to be a rare combination of suspenseful and funny. Add to the mix a stellar performance by Pike that landed her a Golden Globe best performance nomination. Netflix was quick to snatch this up when it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last year.
