This week's new streaming movies to watch together

Sometimes the home can feel like the worst place to watch movies. There are so many other things to do at home and often TV shows feel like less of a time commitment even when you end up binging an entire mini-series in one night. A lot of times the hesitation to watch a movie comes from indecisiveness from not knowing what to watch. I used to get crippled with indecisiveness having thousands of films at my fingertips. Lucky for me this weekly newsletter solved that particular problem. The other thing that makes movies harder to get into is the difficulty there can be with creating a "cinematic" environment for watching films at home. Of course, if you have the means you can convert some space of the home into a dedicated theater but for a lot of people (like me) that kind of setup is out of reach. But there are still smaller things that can be done to get closer to that kind of environment for watching movies.
I have three simple (and you’ll probably find obvious) things that I do to enhance my movie watching experience at home. Here is a quick video to sum it up.

Earwig and the Witch (2020)
Available Friday, February 05 on HBO Max
Goro Miyazaki, son of legendary animation director Hayao Miyazaki, directs this film about an orphan girl that is adopted by a witch. This is the first 3D movie from Studio Ghibli, historically known for their beautiful hand drawn animation. Studio Ghibli is considered by many to be the Disney Animation of Japan, having created some of the best animated films in cinema history. Time will tell if the studio will be able to continue that legacy with 3D animation. Earwig and the Witch looks to be a good start.
Bliss (2021)
Available Friday, February 05 on Prime Video
Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek star in this sci-fi romance film that looks like it has the potential to be a head scratcher. It follows Owen Wilson's character after he gets convinced that the depressed world around him is a computer simulation. It'll be fun to see Wilson in a non-comedic role. The director, Mike Cahill, made a bit of a splash onto the indie scene with his 2011 film Another Earth and Bliss seems to follow in that film's footsteps.
Malcolm and Marie (2021)
Available Friday, February 05 on Netflix
Netflix has put on a marketing blitz for this new film starring John David Washington (Denzel Washington's son - if you didn't know) and Zendaya. Helmed by the folks that created Euphoria, this movie looks like it’s made by people who work in Hollywood for people who want to know what Hollywood culture is like. It follows a film director and his girlfriend after they return from his movie premiere. Meta much?
